Biography
Lyndsey began her singing career when she joined Peterborough Youth Choir at the age of fourteen, and studied singing with Fergus Black and John Gull. After graduating from Bishop Grosseteste University in 2008 with a PGCE in Secondary Music, she took up a teaching post in Lincolnshire where, until last year, she was the Head of Music. She has been Teacher of Academic Music at Oakham School for the past year, and takes up a position as Music Teacher at a primary school in Peterborough in September 2019.
Lyndsey is a versatile singer, and enjoys singing classical, opera, musical theatre, easy listening and jazz. Her excellent sight-singing skills and pitch have been encouraged and developed through regular performances with St Botolph's Singers and Tapestry Singers.
Lyndsey has continued her professional development by participating in vocal workshops with Apollo5, English National Opera, John Rutter, The Sixteen and Voces8, and has been studying under Alison Pearce (international soprano and former Vocal Professor at the Royal Academy of Music) since 2013, including week-long masterclasses in Tuscany and Cambridge. She sings in several groups in South Lincolnshire and Cambridgeshire including St Botolph's Singers (Boston), Peterborough Opera, and Tapestry Singers (Hemingford Abbots).
Choral performances include Orff’s Carmina Burana in Salzburg (Cantemus and Die Musikfreunde), Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater (St Martin’s Singers, Stamford), and Patrick Hawes’ Song of Songs with soprano Elin Manahan Thomas, conducted by Patrick Hawes himself (St Botolph's Singers, Edenham). Solo performances include Rutter’s Magnificat (Boston Choral Society), Faure’s Requiem, Karl Jenkins’ Gloria and The Armed Man, Goodall’s In Memorium Anne Frank (BGUCL) and recitals at St Botolph’s Church, Boston. Operatic roles include 'Olga' in Lehar's The Merry Widow, 'Lauretta' in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, 'Countess' in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro, 'Oscar' in Verdi's The Masked Ball, 'Romeo' in Gounod's Romeo and Juliet and 'Spirit 1' in Mozart's The Magic Flute. (Peterborough Opera).
Her highlight of 2018 was singing in the U.S. premiere of Patrick Hawes' The Great War Symphony in Carnegie Hall, New York, in honour of the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day.
Last year, she recorded new arrangements of carols by Patrick Hawes; this was with Tapestry Singers. In July, she achieved a distinction for her ARSM (Associate of the Royal Schools of Music) and was invited to join London's award-winning chamber choir, the Purcell Singers.
Earlier this year, she became a vocal coach at Newark theatre school, StageAhead. In July, she joined the Stay at Home Choir for recordings of Karl Jenkins' music, and has enjoyed several SAHC projects since. She has recently joined the London Philharmonic Choir and is rehearsing for a performance of Tippett's Midsummer Marriage at Royal Festival Hall, London.
